Toni scores on Fiorentina debut

Fiorentina hammered Al Nasr 4-0 with Luca Toni on target against his former club, but Coach Walter Zenga had harsh words for the striker.

Toni had played in Dubai with Al Nasr over the last few months, but terminated his contract by mutual consent and signed for the Viola on transfer deadline day.

He made his ‘debut’ for the Tuscans this evening and scored with a trademark header early on from fellow newcomer Giulio Migliaccio’s assist.

After the break they ran riot with Adem Ljajic redirecting a David Pizarro effort and adding his second with a solo effort.

Manuel Pasqual’s cross found Alex Gulin to turn in the fourth goal.

However, before kick-off Al Nasr Coach Zenga had harsh words for Toni.

“He didn’t do well to seek motivation here at Al Nasr,” said Zenga.

“I didn’t like what he said in the papers and those comments do him no credit. A player must find motivation even when there isn’t any.

“Here he did what he was meant to do, but also dislocated his elbow and was out for 42 days. Therefore, he missed a lot of the games.

“I imagine he can play at Fiorentina, it all depends on if his mind is on the job.”
