Llama: Viola move a 'Quantum Leap'

New Fiorentina signing Cristian Llama is thrilled by the opportunity to work with former mentor Vincenzo Montella in Florence.

The Viola snapped up the Argentine winger on loan from Catania on deadline day but have only got around to unveiling him today.

“I chose Fiorentina for a quantum leap, both of life and football,” Llama declared at the Press conference. “I had Montella at Catania, and he was the one who brought me here. I came with great happiness.”

The 26-year-old arrives at the Stadio Artemio Franchi after five seasons in Sicily, and expects his new club to challenge for Europe this season.

“We will see over time. Let’s say we’ll finish in the first six or seven places. To not get there would be a failure.”

Fiorentina went through three Coaches last term in a turbulent season that saw them finish 13th, their lowest League position in seven years. Even so, making the move north was a simple decision for Llama.

“There are many South Americans here, so I am happy, they are great guys.”

One point of concern for the former Arsenal de Sarandi man is the formation deployed by Montella in Fiorentina's two games so far this season, a home win against Udinese and away loss to Napoli.

“With 3-5-2 I have to sacrifice a little, 4-3-3 is better, it’s what I’ve always done.”

Fiorentina host Llama and Montella’s former employers Catania on Sunday.
